sac river wetland and stream mitigation bank
Cedar County, Missouri

The 39-acre Sac River Wetland & Stream Mitigation Bank is located in rural Cedar County, Missouri. This mitigation bank provides compensatory mitigation for impacts to wetlands and streams in the Ozark portion of the Osage River watershed in Missouri.

Prior to restoration, this site functioned primarily as an agricultural property consisting of a hay field adjacent to a bypass channel of the Sac River, along with some existing wooded areas bordering the river and its tributaries. Although several farmed wetlands were present, botanical diversity across the site was low and the vegetation present in the field was heavily dominated by non-native pasture grasses.
These impairments were addressed through following restoration activities:
-
Restoring, enhancing, or preserving 15.5 acres of riparian buffer habitat
-
Restoring or rehabilitating 10.3 acres of marsh wetlands
-
Establishing 13 acres of wetland buffer habitat
Swallowtail’s restoration actions on this site improved and protected the riparian buffer along more than 2,000 linear feet of one side of the Sac River bypass channel, 1,000 linear feet of perennial Silver Creek, and 2,500 linear feet of one or both sides of several tributary streams. Furthermore, the marsh wetland establishment and rehabilitation areas within the Bank provide important water quality improvements to the watershed. These improvements will help to improve the condition of downstream waters, including the Osage River and Lake of the Ozarks.
